Shannon-Erne

Flanked by lush riverside pastures, the Shannon-Erne Waterway is a 63 kilometre route connecting the Erne System and the Shannon Navigation, two of the great waterways of Ireland. Enjoy a relaxing cruise on its serene waters, while taking the time to sample Irish cuisine at the many gastropubs along the route. The more adventurous can explore the surrounding mountains, and anglers can fish at the numerous secluded spots recommended by locals.

Cruisers and barges move freely along the Shannon-Erne Waterway, mooring in some of the fully serviced public marinas found along its length. Sixteen locks are managed electro-hydraulically by a smart card that allows ease of passage. Several boat hire companies offer barges and cruisers for easy weekend trips or laidback week-long journeys.

Visitors can also discover new multi-activity trails for paddlers, walkers and cyclists on the Shannon-Erne Blueway. These offer safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences for people of all ages and abilities, on or off the water.
