Leighlinbridge

Leighlinbridge

Discover the charming town of Leighlinbridge, ideally situated right on the River Barrow and focused around a historic 14th-century arched bridge and 12th century castle.

Moor up and enjoy the beautiful 9 arched bridge, across which you’ll find the Black Castle, which was founded by John de Clahull circa 1181. Explore the ruins, or walk, hike, bike or run the Barrow Way, a 114 km long-distance trail which takes 4 days to walk, but is divided into a series of shorter, more manageable trails. Coarse angling is popular along the RIver Barrow, and sightseers will enjoy the beautiful Leighlinbridge Garden of Remembrance and the War Memorial. There’s also a stud farm, Vale Wanderers Football Club and several bars, restaurants and pubs to keep visitors entertained, alongside a 4 star hotel and a couple of B&Bs.
