Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels that the section of navigation from Lock 9 Kilclare to Lock 16 Leitrim Village will be closed from 3 November 2025 until the end of February 2026 to facilitate essential lock improvement works.
These works form part of Waterways Ireland’s ongoing programme to maintain and enhance the canal infrastructure. They will include the replacement of lock gates, repairs to lock chambers and masonry, and upgrades to lock operating mechanisms to improve safety, reliability and ease of operation for the 2026 boating season.
During this period, no passage by boat will be possible between these locations.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience this may cause and thanks all waterway users for their cooperation and patience while these important works are carried out to safeguard the long-term integrity of the navigation.
