Tully Castle Loughshore Walk

Explore the historic ruins of Tully Castle, set against the striking backdrop of Lower Lough Erne. The Tully Castle Lough Shore Walk is a journey of contrasts, all within the outstanding beauty of Marble Arch Caves Geopark.

Begin the walk at the ruins of Tully Castle, set on a south-facing slope at Tully Point. Here, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the surrounding countryside and absorb the history of Tully Castle, which was inhabited for only 30 years before lying in ruins for many centuries. In 1974, efforts were made to restore and preserve the castle and its paths and gardens, and it became a popular site for walkers and tourists.

Follow the path around the headline and you’ll be plunged into dense woodlands, rich with ash, beech and other broadleaf trees. As you tread the forest floor, you’ll walk a carpet of mosses, lichens, wood sorrel, ferns and even orchids and bluebells, depending on the season and which wildflowers are in bloom.

Breaks in the woodland reveal enchanting views of Lower Lough Erne and its surrounding small islands, including Heron Island, Gay Island and Inishmakill Island, all of which are home to many species of native birds. Once the walk’s 1.9 km duration is complete, you’ll find yourself back at your original starting point.
