The historic town of Ballymahon is documented as early as 1578, though the town was fully developed later, and features many beautiful examples of Georgian architecture. Located a few access points from the start of the Royal Canal Greenway, it’s the perfect stopover, with many independent food and drink businesses due to the town’s proximity to Center Parcs. Take in a play at The Bog Lane Theatre, hear stories of the area’s pre-modern history or rent an electric bike to explore the area’s natural beauty.
If you’re travelling west on the Greenway, we recommend stopping at Ballybrannigan Harbour, which is 1 km from the town centre but directly accessible from the Greenway.
