Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels and waterway users that initial works have been undertaken by Kildare County Council at Devonshire Bridge (located between the 13th Lock and the 14th Lock on the Grand Canal) to make the bridge safe for navigation passage underneath.
As a result, vessel navigation through this section of the Grand Canal is now permitted, with caution. This follows the previous closure (Marine Notice No. 25 of 2025) which was implemented due to significant damage to the bridge resulting from a vehicle strike.
Key Safety Information:
-
Vessels may now pass under Devonshire Bridge with due caution.
-
Masters of vessels are advised to be alert to any ongoing works in the vicinity
-
The Greenway remains open.
Waterways Ireland thanks all users for their patience and cooperation while these essential safety works were carried out.

Kind regards
