Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels on the Grand Canal that the 18th Level remains closed to facilitate ongoing essential works to a culvert near Robertstown on the 18th Level.
These works have required the complete damming of the canal to the east and west of the site to allow for the repair of a historic culvert, last exposed when this section of the canal was originally constructed in c.1784.
Works are ongoing and are now scheduled to be concluded by 31 March 2026. Waterways Ireland is committed to the preservation of this historic infrastructure and will issue further updates as the project nears completion.
