Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels seeking to travel via Ardnacrusha Lock on the River Shannon of an extension to the essential repairs on the Middle Gate of the Ardnacrusha Navigation Lock sytem.
Frames required to stabilise the lock gates and counterbalance weights have now been installed. However, repairs have proven more complex than initially envisaged, and works are taking longer than expected.
Due to the complexity of the current repair works, the previously planned 20-year overhaul of the remaining gates will not proceed at this time. It is now envisaged that the middle gate repairs will be completed and the locks returned to operation by late January 2026 (estimate, subject to change).
Waterways Ireland and the ESB apologise for any inconvenience and thanks waterway users for their continued cooperation. Further Marine Notices will be issued as works progress.
