Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters of vessels navigating in the vicinity of Lough Ree Yacht Club that the club will host the Optimist National Championships from Wednesday 14 August to Saturday 17 August 2025.
This major youth sailing event will see up to 200 participants competing across three racecourses on lower Lough Ree, supported by over 30 rescue boats.
Safety Guidance for Passing Vessels:
- Masters of vessels are requested to comply with instructions from safety boats.
- Proceed at a maximum speed of 5 knots and keep wash to a minimum when transiting race areas and Lough Ree Yacht Club.
- Be aware that excessive speed and wash can endanger competitors and support craft.
- The Shannon Navigation Bye-Laws will be enforced by the Waterways Ireland Inspectorate, and vessels found to be in breach may be subject to legal action.
