Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels and all waterway users that the National Monuments Service will undertake an archaeological dive survey on the east side of the River Shannon at Athlone, as part of investigations associated with the proposed Athlone Boardwalk and Pool development.
The survey is scheduled to take place during the following periods:
- Thursday 21 May 2026 – 0800hrs to 1700hrs
- Friday 22 May 2026 – 0800hrs to 1700hrs
Dive support vessel will be present within the area shown below. Diver location will be marked with the Blue & White Alpha Dive Flag, bottom right of image.
Masters of vessels are requested to:
- Navigate with additional caution in the vicinity of the dive operations
- Maintain a safe distance from dive operations and dive marker buoys
- Proceed at slow speed and minimise wash
- Comply with any instructions issued by safety personnel
