Shannon Navigation Ardnacrusha Locks Re-Open

Marine Notice No. 23 of 2026

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels that essential engineering works to the middle gate at Ardnacrusha Lock have been successfully completed.

Following a comprehensive programme of repairs and detailed functional testing carried out by ESB, the lock has now returned to full operational service. The lock will reopen from Tuesday, 24 February.

Masters wishing to book a transit are requested to contact ESB Ardnacrusha at least 48 hours in advance on Tel: +353 (0)87 9970131

Due to currently elevated water levels, increased flow rates are increased downstream. Boaters should exercise caution when navigating this stretch of the waterway.

Waterways Ireland thanks all waterway users for their patience, cooperation, and understanding while these important works were undertaken by ESB.
