Royal Canal – Dublin Temporary Towpath Closure

Marine Notice No. 13 of 2026: Royal Canal – Temporary Towpath Closure

Dublin City Council, through its Active Travel Programme Office, advises that a section of the Royal Canal towpath will be temporarily closed to the public from Monday 9 February to Friday 20 February (inclusive) to facilitate essential ground investigation works. These works will inform the design of Phase 4 of the Royal Canal Greenway Scheme.

The ground investigations will take place along the Royal Canal towpath between Broombridge Road and Prospect Road (Cross Guns Bridge). For safety reasons, public access to this section of the towpath will not be permitted for the duration of the works, and the area will be fully cordoned off.

A signposted diversion route will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the temporary closure period.

Dublin City Council apologises for any inconvenience or disruption these necessary works may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation.
