Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels that the 7th Lock on the Grand Canal Main Line is temporarily closed to navigation due to a mechanical issue affecting the lock gates.
The deep gate is currently unable to close and, as a result, the lock is not operational. Waterways Ireland is arranging an inspection of the lock, including an underwater dive inspection, to determine the cause of the issue and undertake the necessary remedial works.
Vessels will not be permitted in from the 12th Lock until these issues have been resolved. Waterways Ireland operations staff are also working to remove the obstruction from Level C5 to open the full section for the IWAI Autumn Rally.
