MARINE NOTICE No 02 of 2025

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that a Status Orange Snow - Ice Warning has been issued by Met Eireann for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary from 1700hrs on Saturday 4th Jan to 1700hrs on Sunday 5th January 2025.

The Met Eireann Snow-Ice weather warning states that “Significant snowfall accumulations are expected” with impacts including:
•    Very difficult travelling conditions
•    Poor visibility
•    Travel disruption
•    Difficult conditions underfoot

A Status Yellow Snow - Ice Warning has been issued by Met Eireann for Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Connacht from 1700hrs on Saturday 4th Jan to 1700hrs on Sunday 5th January 2025.

The UK Met Office has issued a Status Yellow ice warning for Antrim, Down, Tyrone & Derry from 1600hrs on Friday 3rd January to 1000hrs on Saturday 4th January 2025. The warning states that there will be “Icy surfaces leading to difficult travel conditions”.

Masters of vessels are advised to not undertake unnecessary journeys during the weather warnings. Waterways users are advised that jetties, surfaces and quay walls may be slippery. Additional precautions should be taken when operating on or near water.
