Refurbishment at Ardanaffrin

REFURBISHMENT OF QUAY AREA AT ARDANAFFRIN BRIDGE (NEAR JAMESTOWN) COMPLETE

Waterways Ireland is delighted to announce that the refurbishment and enhancement of the quay area at Ardanaffrin Bridge, near Jamestown has been completed.

The project included paving, landscaping and a new access pathway for boat users along with the introduction of a seating and picnic area. The total cost for the works was approximately €35,000.

Waterways Ireland has a programme of ongoing investment in upgrading and developing facilities on the Shannon Navigation. The Shannon Navigation, which includes the River Shannon and its lakes, is navigable over a distance of 215 km from Lough Allen, Co Leitrim to the sea at Limerick. Waterways Ireland has recently completed the installation of new public moorings in Carrick-on-Shannon with berths for up to 28 boats. Work on the new service block to provide toilet and shower facilities for boat users in Carrick-on-Shannon is due to be completed by late Summer (this element is being co-funded by Leitrim County Council).

Other works currently underway on the Shannon Navigation include new public marina facilities in Garrykennedy on Lough Derg and Portrunny on Lough Ree. Approval has also been recently given by Roscommon County Council for new moorings at Kilglass Lake (North Shannon). The existing mooring site will be taken over by Waterways Ireland shortly and work will commence on upgrading the facilities and moorings in the Autumn.

Waterways Ireland is the North/South Implementation Body responsible for managing, maintaining, developing and restoring the inland navigable waterways throughout the island.
