New Moorings Portrunny
€1.2m DEVELOPMENT OF NEW MOORINGS AND HARBOUR AT PORTRUNNY, Co. ROSCOMMON.
Waterways Ireland is delighted to announce the opening of new moorings on Lough Ree at Portrunny, Co. Roscommon, to boat users.
Work on the harbour and moorings on the Shannon Navigation at Portrunny, which started in July last year, is being undertaken as part of the National Development Plan. Costing some €1.2m, the works involved the installation of 250 metres of floating moorings which will accommodate up to 25 craft with an additional 66 metres of moorings for small craft. The existing stone breakwater was extended and reconfigured to provide shelter to the floating moorings from the prevailing wind and wave action.
The moorings are currently provided with light and water for boat users and work on additional amenities including the provision of a service block with toilets and shower facilities, and a car parking area is due to be completed by the end of the year.
The moorings and harbour come under the remit of Waterways Ireland, the North/South implementation body responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the inland navigable waterway systems including the Shannon Navigation.
