The stamps include scenes from the Grand Canal at Cornalaur, Co Offaly, the Barrow Navigation at Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny, the Erne System at Belturbet, Co Cavan and the Shannon Navigation at Meelick Quay, Co Galway.

Martin Dennany, Director of Marketing & Communications with Waterways Ireland spoke of the significance of the launch of the series of stamps.

He said, "Waterways Ireland, as the guardian of the inland waterways, was delighted to be involved with An Post in the production of this series of stamps which showcase the natural and built heritage of the inland waterways. The inland waterways are the greatest natural asset on this island and with the stamps bound for many different countries, we will be able to share the beauty of our waterways with the world and encourage visitors to experience the waterways first hand."

The First Day Cover and the Prestige Booklet which includes copies of the stamps and background information on the inland waterways are available from the main post offices for a limited time.
