Waterways Ireland invests over €500,000 at Lecarrow Harbour

Waterways Ireland has arrived on-site at Lecarrow Harbour to undertake a planned programme of development in partnership with Roscommon County Council.

The investment in Lecarrow Harbour involves the construction of a new access road, slipway and associated car parking; construction of a playground, service block & boat pump-out and the upgrading of the existing car park.

Waterways Ireland has designed and will construct a new access road, associated car parking for a new slipway and has contracted for the construction of a service block and pump-out. The investment by Waterways Ireland exceeds €500,000 (ex VAT) with Roscommon County Council covering the cost of the new playground & upgraded public car park and 50% of the cost of the service block and pumpout.

John Martin, Chief Executive of Waterways Ireland said 'the investment in Lecarrow comes on top of multi-million euro investment in waterways infrastructure on the Shannon Navigation in the past 3 years. This includes new moorings at Portumna Bridge, Ballina and Carrick-on-Shannon, the upgrading of services at Kilglass and the construction of a service block in Carrick-on-Shannon'.

The contracted works at Lecarrow Harbour will commence in late March 2009 and are scheduled to be completed in July/August 2009 providing a major improvement to facilities and the visitor experience on the Shannon Navigation.
