David Ervine Memorial Trophy

WATERWAYS IRELAND CREATE DAVID ERVINE MEMORIAL TROPHY

Waterways Ireland commissioned a Galway Crystal Trophy to be presented to the winning entrant in the Waterways Ireland Cross Border Young Anglers competition in memory of David Ervine at the annual Scarriff Harbour Festival which took place last weekend in Co Clare.

David Ervine, in the company of Mark Durkan, attended the inaugural Scarriff Harbour Festival in 2003 as part of the cross border aspect of the festival in line with its sponsorship by the North/South Body Waterways Ireland.

At the awards ceremony last Sunday, Martin Dennany, Director of Marketing and Communications with Waterways Ireland spoke of David Ervine's commitment to young people.

"Here in Scarriff, David and I discussed our mutual belief in the important role our young people North and South have to play in our future. I felt it would be a fitting tribute to his positive impact on the peace process to create a trophy for a cross border youth event here in Scarriff".

The David Ervine memorial trophy was presented to Ivan Pelaez by David's wife Jeanette Ervine, for his winning catch.
