Re-opening Termonbarry Bridge

Termonbarry Bridge Reopens Early After Essential Rehabilitation Works

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise that the lifting bridge, which carries the N5 over the River Shannon at Termonbarry on the Co. Longford / Co. Roscommon border, reopened to traffic (vehicles and pedestrians) from Sunday 30th November at 2pm.

Termonbarry Bridge required essential rehabilitation and repair work to maintain the safety and operation of the bridge, and with associated road works, was expected to require a ten day closure. Works went smoothly and were completed ahead of schedule. Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused by the closure.

The rehabilitation works cost €147,000 and consisted of improving the vertical alignment at the lifting span and essential waterproofing works. The replacement of existing bearings, mechanical and electrical units also formed part of the rehabilitation works. The co-operation of Longford County Council and Roscommon County Council is much appreciated.

Works were undertaken by L&M Keating Ltd, Kilmihill, Co. Clare.
