BEST MARINA AWARD FOR WATERWAYS IRELAND

Waterways Ireland was awarded Best Marina Development 2007 for the new Moorings in Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim, at the Local Government, City & Council Awards ceremony which took place recently in Dublin.

The new Moorings which were opened to boat users in May 2006 are part of the ongoing programme of infrastructure development by Waterways Ireland to meet the growing demand for mooring space in Carrick on Shannon.

The new public moorings provide space for an additional 28 boats at a new jetty at the Quay in Carrick on Shannon. The project cost €300,000 and was undertaken as part of the National Development Plan. The moorings were designed and project managed in-house by Waterways Ireland. The floating moorings were supplied by Inland & Coastal Marina Systems and the pile driving was carried out by Irish Diving Contractors Ltd.

The Local Government, City & Council awards were created to honour exemplary projects within the community; they seek to generate recognition of the efforts, accomplishments, and positive contributions of the individuals, companies and local government authorities who make these happen. Waterways Ireland was nominated for the award by Leitrim County Council.

Waterways Ireland is the North/South Implementation Body responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the inland navigable waterways principally for recreational purposes.
