Discover the peaceful beauty of Crom, a 2000-acre estate made up of woodlands and small islands by the shores of Upper Lough Erne. The Crom Estate Lakeside Trail is a roughly 1.5 hour walk along unchallenging terrain, making it an accessible way to unlock the treasures of the region. Or, cycle the trail to cover ground more quickly.
Start your journey at the carpark, where you’ll turn left onto the main drive and pass some holiday cottages on your left and a playground on your right. 200 metres after the playground, turn left through the gate and proceed along the trail, passing through parklands towards the Old Castle. These ancient ruins date back to 1611, and survived two Jacobite sieges during the Williamite War.
Advance along the lakeside towards the boathouse, soaking up the glorious views, then, 100 metres past the boathouse, make a left to cross the White Bridge. With the walled garden on your right, follow the path through the serene woodlands, which will lead you in a loop back to the White Bridge. After crossing it, take a left down a woodland road, where the Estate’s Summer House will be on your left as you continue through the woods. A white bungalow will come into view on your right, with the estate's historical sawmill and peat house on the left.
Continue through the woods, turn left onto a concrete lane and keep going until you arrive at a crossroads. Follow the signs for the Visitor Centre, and you’ll be back at the carpark.
