Castle Archdale Tom's Island

Explore the natural beauty of Castle Archdale Forest on this scenic circular walk, or traverse the trail by bike. Winding through dense woodlands, the trail takes you through a forest of coniferous and broadleafed trees. Pine martens, hedgehogs, foxes and red squirrels are often spotted along this route, so make sure to keep an eye on the foliage. Following the trail along the edges of Lower Lough Erne you’ll reach a picnic spot, where you can enjoy a rest amongst the incredible views from Tom’s Island. White Island and Davy’s Island are visible across the water. You’ll notice, though, that Tom’s Island is not actually an island – many years ago, before the lough was lowered, it was cut off from the mainland by a shallow strip of water, but it’s now fully accessible by foot.
