Castle Archdale - Blue Route

Perfect for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, this is one of several short, circular trails set amongst the gorgeous scenery of Castle Archdale Country Park, and can be explored by foot or by bike. This route offers a good chance of spotting wild animals such as pine martens, hedgehogs, foxes and red squirrels in their natural habitat, as well as seeing historical legacies of World War 2 such as flying-boat docks, ammunition dumps and slit trenches. Lough Erne played an important role in the war as a westerly flying-boat station, protecting allied convoys from the U-boat threat in the North Atlantic. Explore these ruins and pass through a deer park enclosure, wildfowl ponds, a wildflower meadow and butterfly garden – this walk has something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
