COMING SOON: The Royal Canal Greenway
The Royal Canal Greenway, Ireland’s longest distance walking and cycling route, will soon be ready. It’s time to get in gear for 130km of picturesque, tranquil, relaxing trails between Maynooth and Longford town/Cloondara.
At the moment, a partnership between Waterways Ireland and the four Local Authorities along the route (Kildare, Meath, Westmeath and Longford) together with other key groups, (community, business & voluntary) is working to realise the ambitions for Ireland’s newest and longest Greenway. Recent funding made available by Dept of Transport, Tourism and Sport will provide for signage and other visitor services.
For now it’s a work in progress; while the basic infrastructure is almost complete, much work remains in providing a quality visitor experience. We are working hard to ensure that we will have a Royal Canal Greenway that is fully functional, animated and activated.CURRENT STATUS:
