Sailing on the Grand Canal
The Grand Canal Basin in Dublin's Docklands has been used to host competitive match racing events in the past and has proved a highly suitable venue.
Participants must be aware of the effect of the taller buildings on the wind spped and direction and the tricky conditions make it hugely entertaining for the 1000's of people who attend this city centre venue.
No leisure sailing currently takes place in the basin. Waterways Ireland normally only provides access to the basin for boats competing in specific events or intending to make passage up the Grand Canal. Passage-making rules out many keelboats form using the canal beyond the Grand Canal Basin due to limitations of draft.
