Overview

Explore the serene waters and lush riverbanks of the Shannon, where paddlers can drift past ancient villages, navigate peaceful canal sections and vast, open lakes, and canoe, kayak or Stand Up Paddle through over 100 km of trails.

Bring your own equipment, or rent some from one of the vetted providers below, and book a guided paddle with an experienced instructor. If you’re already comfortable on the water, try one of dozens of self-guided routes, from gentle, lazy paddles to more challenging trails. Some even choose the once-in-a-lifetime adventure of navigating the entire Shannon. Enjoy the water at your own pace, spotting wild birds, circling remote islands, and gliding past charming towns and villages.

Back on the river banks, there’s plenty to discover, with peaceful walking and hiking trails, cycling routes and local food, drink and sites to explore. From old mines and ancient abbeys, to golf and quad biking, the Shannon Blueway is an action-packed adventure for friends, families and lone wanderers alike.
