Start your journey down the Shannon-Erne at Leitrim Village, a small but bustling village near the juncture of the River Shannon and the Shannon-Erne Waterway. Boaters can moor up at the public marina in the village before enjoying Leitrim’s many modern bars, pubs, hotels and restaurants. Don’t miss the historic ruins of O'Rourke's Castle, a limestone stronghold which was built as early as 1491, and is situated right in the heart of the village.
Ideally located for walkers, Leitrim Village offers many trails into the area’s surrounding forests, lakes and valleys. Check out Acres Lake Floating Boardwalk, a charming trail which takes you right out over the water, or rent an electric bike and cycle the diverse trails of the nearby Shannon Blueway.
