Dublin

Dublin

The bustling capital of Ireland, Dublin is a city steeped in history, culture and commerce. Straddling both sides of the River Liffey with their rich heritage, cultural gems and unique charm, the Grand Canal and Royal Canal are captivating green and blue corridors of Dublin city.

Enjoy the city and its surroundings at your leisure along or on the canals by walking, cycling, kayaking, boating and more. We recommend exploring the canal routes in sections, as not all towpaths are yet fully accessible by bike and on foot.

The city's canals have inspired poets, writers and artists, while its waters were once the lifeblood of the trade and industry. Time spent along the canals invites you to appreciate the city's beautiful built heritage, its ornate bridges and the enormus engineering feat it took to create the waterways.

As you traverse the canals, you can easily reach historic and cultural sites such as Goldenbridge and Glasnevin Cemeteries, Croke Park Museum and Phoenix Park, Windmill Lane, and EPIC Emigration Museum in the Docklands, and explore some of the region's charming villages including Lucan, Castleknock and Clondalkin as you head west towards the midlands.
