The HERITAGE BOAT ASSOCIATION celebrates their 21st year

​Week long event from Sat 28th May to Monday 6th June at Ballinasloe Marina on the River Suck Waterway.Celebrating 21st anniversary of the Heritage Boats Association with barges dating back to 1847.

All welcome to come view the barges and explore the past. With the Heritage Boat Association (HBA) and IWAI River Suck branch with Waterways Ireland and Galway County Council.

WEDNESDAY 1st JUNE • 7pm - Historical/Heritage tour of Ballinasloe, guided by local historian Sean Tully.

• Walking Tour for an hour and a half on history of the Grand Canal and River Suck – our waterways in Ballinasloe. Meeting point at the Heron Sculpture in the harbour 7pm sharp.

SATURDAY 4th JUNE Culture and Heritage Celebration in association with Waterways Ireland and Galway County Council... • 1pm – 5pm Join us for the Cruinniú event, a family friendly event showcasing Ireland’s cultural heritage, arts and crafts, butter making, Flea Circus, a talk on the famous Galway Hooker sailing boats.

• Have a look at the historic Bolinder engine, the power plant that replaced horses on the Grand Canal Barge Fleet.

• Music and craic in the harbour all afternoon with:

2pm Ballinasloe Town Band

• 3pm Bobby Kilkenny & Friends – Trad session

• 5.30pm in the marquee, join Dr Christy Cunniffe for a historic talk on the Ballinasloe Grand Canal branch from Fannings lock to Ballinasloe

 • 6:30pm in the Marquee, join Conor Nolan from the Heritage Boat Association for a talk about the HBA and a tour of our information board
