Algae Bloom

Advisory Information

Waterways Ireland has been officially notified of the presence of Blue-Green algae in a number of locations on the inland waterways. Blue-Green algae are toxic to humans and potentially lethal to animals.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise boaters to comply with the notices placed by the Local Authority Environment Sections and avoid contact or immersive activities in areas where Blue-Green algae are present. Waterways Ireland jetties and slipways remain open, however boaters and other users are advised to stay out of the water.

Please report encounters with Blue-Green algae blooms on the inland waterways to your Local Authority Environmental Section.

Waterways Ireland thanks its customers for their cooperation in relation to this matter.
