Marine Notice No 58 of 2021 - Grand Canal Main Line, Barrow Line and Royal Canal - low water levels - cautionary advice

Notice Number 58 of 2021

MARINE NOTICE
No 58 of 2021

Grand Canal Main Line, Barrow Line and Royal Canal

Low water levels

Cautionary advice

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that low water levels continue to be experienced on the Grand Canal Main Line, Barrow Line and Royal Canal at this time. Some levels are currently 450mm down on normal levels.

The recent prolonged dry spell of weather together with the pattern of rain fall has adversely affected the sources which supply water to the navigation systems. The unusually hot weather has not only reduced the sources of water but has also caused loss through evaporation.

Masters of vessels are advised to proceed with additional caution and to contact the water patroller for latest advice and assistance.

Waterways Ireland apologies for any inconvenience caused.
