Heritage Plan Open Day

Waterways Ireland is hosting their fourth annual Heritage Plan Open Day on Thursday December 12th, from 12-7pm.  At this event, being held at Waterways Ireland's Visitor Centre, you can review all the actions of the Heritage Plan that were progressed throughout the last 12 months.

This will also be a great opportunity to meet staff from the Waterways Ireland Environment & Heritage Office.  Chat face to face about potential projects, ideas and support we can offer our stakeholders including our 2020 Heritage Grant Scheme

Our CEO, John McDonagh, will also be present on the day.  If you wish to have one on one time with John please reserve one of our 8 dedicated time slots (1:00-3:00pm) by clicking this Doodle link. Places are on a first come, first serve basis so don’t delay.

The agenda for the day is as follows:

  • The event is open to the public from 12-7pm.

  • Come and listen to oral histories, inspect archival material and tell us about waterway placenames.

  • View our 'Stories from the Waterways' digital media features showcasing community groups from all our waterways as well as the valuable work undertaken by staff in the protection and promotion of our heritage assets.

  • Sit down and review the wide variety of natural, built and cultural heritage reports commissioned throughout this and previous years.

  • Meet with our CEO John McDonagh and staff from the Environment & Heritage Office.

  • View the tremendous work undertaken by the recipients of the 2019 Heritage Grants Scheme.  Staff will be on hand to advise on the 2020 Grants Scheme too.

  • Talk to us about potential projects you'd like progressed in 2020, partnerships you can offer or general queries about the Heritage Plan.

  • Have your say on our 'What Floats your Boat" public feedback corner where you can leave a comment on what you like, or where you think Waterways Ireland could improve service to our stakeholders.

Limited on street parking is available close to the Visitor Centre with multi-storey parking located just 2 mins walk away.  The Visitor Centre is also readily accessible through a variety of public transport links as well as accessible on foot from the city centre.  Click here for map.
