Waterways Ireland Dry Docks are suitable for flat bottomed vessels.  Any other hull shape will require a shoring/propping certification by a qualified person, before entry will be permitted into the dry dock.

The following details differentiate Rooskey Dry Dock from other WI Dry Docks:

  • Rooskey dry dock is 4m deep and 28m long
  • The dry dock requires mechanical means and WI support Staff  to open and close the gates and sluices
  • The base structure and access steps around the dry dock ( 13 No. x 0.3m risers ) are 4m in height. They are of concrete construction and susceptible to slips if not washed down immediately after dewatering. This is particularly important given the depth of the dry dock and the steepness of the access
  • A special access platform is required from the dry dock wall to the vessel.
  • Risk Assessment and Method Statement for proposed works is required prior to entry to this dry dock
  • Due to the dry dock size “ smaller vessels “ should not use this particular facility, but make use of the Shannon Harbour facility.
