This consultation is now closed. The public consultation on the below Masterplan and Associated Environmental Report took place between Wednesday 4th March 2020 until 4pm on Wednesday 22nd April 2020 in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Summary

This consultation contained information in relation to Waterways Ireland's draft Tourism Masterplan for the Shannon.

Consultation Description

The Tourism Masterplan for the Shannon, incorporating the River Shannon and the Shannon-Erne Waterway, is a key step in the evolution of the new Fáilte Ireland strategy for ‘Ireland's Hidden Heartlands’ which is one of the four key regional tourism experience brands. Together with the development of the Beara Breifne Way, Ireland’s longest inland way-marked way, which spans part of the Hidden Heartlands, the Shannon has been identified as a transformative signature project of scale which will help to unlock the region’s tourism potential. The Tourism Masterplan identifies signature initiatives and projects within the region to support sustainable tourism opportunities both on- and off-water, stimulating enterprises in the towns and villages surrounding it.
