Lough Quay to Clonlara (10km)

Lough Quay to University of Limerick - 3km

• Completed under the active travel scheme and open for public use currently. 

University of Limerick - Clonlara - 7km

• The proposed trail will run adjacent to the existing Erina Canal in South East Clare. 
• The proposed route is partly in use as a pathway 
• Contracts for planning consultants will be awarded in 2026 
• Detailed Design and a Planning application will be submitted to develop and enhance the existing pathway to greenway standard
• Public Consultation prior to planning submission will be undertaken.

Scariff to Tuamgraney (1km)

Connecting the two towns, the greenway will deliver a recreational multi use trail utilising existing pathways, roads, and available lands.

Consultation with stakeholders is ongoing currently to determine the most advantageous and viable route subject to Detailed design and Statutory Planning approvals.

Public Consultation prior to planning submission will be undertaken.

Blackbridge Crossing (500m)

Blackbridge, River Shannon, Limerick - (Also known as Plassey Bridge)

Site assessment works have been conducted on the Blackbridge that previously served as a pedestrian crossing on the Shannon.

This bridge is of Historical significance and is currently closed and awaiting upgrade works.  This bridge will be upgraded to the required standard subject to Detailed Design and Planning Approval.  On completion the pedestrian bridge will link the Park Canal section to Section 1.

Current studies are ongoing to ascertain the current condition of the bridge.

Public Consultation prior to planning submission will be undertaken.

Clonlara - Killaloe ( 14km)

Develop a 14km path linking Erina Bridge and Killaloe town via the village of O’Briensbridge. 

This Section will be developed using existing pathways, the public road infrastructure and available adjoining lands.  

Consultants will be appointed to progress detailed design and planning permissions to develop this 14km section, with construction to follow thereafter.

Public Consultation prior to planning submission will be undertaken.

Killaloe - Tuamgraney (17.5km)

Develop greenway standard trail linking Tuamgraney Village and Killaloe using existing pathways and existing road infrastructure and available lands adjacent to the public roads .  

Consultants will be appointed to progress detailed design and planning approvals to develop this 17.5km section, with construction to follow thereafter.

Public Consultation prior to planning submission will be undertaken.
