Grand Canal - Level C5 - Dublin - Navigation Closure Until Further Notice

Marine Notice No. 69 of 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels that the Grand Canal is closed to vessel navigation on Level C5 due to a sunken barge obstructing the navigation at Charlemont Place, Dublin, until the obstruction is removed.

Navigation Restrictions

  • The sunken barge is obstructing navigation, and vessels must not attempt to transit the affected section.
  • Hydrocarbon pollution control booms have been deployed around the vessel as a precautionary environmental protection measure.
  • Members of the public are strictly prohibited from attempting to board, access or interfere with the vessel.
  • Disruption to navigation is expected to be minimal, as Lock C1 is currently closed for renovation works.

Waterways Ireland is seeking the safe removal of the vessel and the timely reopening of the navigation as soon as practicable. Further updates will be issued as necessary.
