Essential remediation works on Grand Canal, at McKenney Bridge in Dublin.

Essential remediation works on a short section of the Grand Canal in Dublin, at McKenney Bridge, near the junction of Grand Canal Street and Clanwilliam Place, will commence on Monday 15th June 2026. Pedestrian access will be maintained along both towpaths during the works. It is estimated the works will take one month.

Water leakage underneath the lock gates at Lock C1 has necessitated repairs to restore navigability and prevent the potential draining of the canal section between locks C1 and C2, which would greatly impact aquatic life.

The canal will be sealed off immediately upstream and downstream of Lock C1; a specialist contractor will work from the water to complete the works safely.

The site, including the green area on the southern bank and the grass area immediately adjacent to the canal on the northern bank, will be closed to the public for the duration of the works for health and safety reasons.

Waterways Ireland apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause and undertake to complete the works as quickly as possible.  Waterways Ireland thanks all concerned for their patience during this period.
