Seasonal Assistant Lockkeeper

Waterways Ireland is one of the six North / South Implementation Bodies established in 1999 under the British / Irish Agreement. The Body has its headquarters in Enniskillen, with regional offices in Scarriff, Carrick-on-Shannon and Dublin. It is responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of inland navigable waterways principally for recreational purposes.

THE ORGANISATION IS SEEKING TO RECRUIT A TEMPORARY LOCK KEEPER DURING THE BOATING SEASON OF 2008 (MAY - OCT). THE ROLE WILL BE TO ASSIST WITH LOCK OPERATIONS ON THE 26TH, 27TH AND 28TH LOCKS ON THE BARROW LINE OF THE GRAND CANAL AND ARDREIGH LOCK AND LEVITSTOWN LOCKS ON THE BARROW NAVIGATION.

SALARY: €536.52 per week pro rata (Under Review)

Applicants must possess ALL of the following:

Good communication skills.
Basic numeracy skills.
Be familiar with lock operations.
Be aware of the Health and Safety issues associated with the operation of lock chambers.
