IRELANDS BIGGEST TRIATHLON - WATERWAYS IRELAND TRIATHLONE THIS SATURDAY

Three part race has a record number of competitors fighting for the title in Athlone

Waterways Ireland triAthlone 2009, Irelands biggest triathlon takes place this Saturday 18th July in Athlone with a record number of 2,500 participants taking part. Thousands of supporters will throng the medieval streets of Athlone to cheer on the athletes of all levels competing in Ireland's biggest triathlon, one of Europe's top 10 triathlons and host for The European Championships in 2010.

Irish Elite Athletes Aileen Morrison and Gavin Nobel will compete in this crucial European cup race against a field of International elite tri-athletes from around the globe (UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Switzerland and Spain).

Waterways Ireland triAthlone has developed into one of the biggest emerging summer festivals where sport, entertainment and music meet.

Liam Heavin, Chairman Waterways Ireland triAthlone said; "This is the biggest year yet for Waterways Ireland triAthlone and we want to encourage as many people as possible to come along and support the tri-athletes taking part and enjoy the festive atmosphere which will be rife throughout Athlone this weekend. We are already looking forward to hosting next year's European Championships in 2010."

This year's Waterways Ireland triAthlone event will be supported by premium sponsor Waterways Ireland, with significant support also provided by Athlone Town Council.

2009 sees the exciting introduction of TRIFEST music festival where key Irish acts The Blizzards and Mundy will perform 17th, 18th and 19th July. Fáilte Ireland is main supporters for the TRIFEST music festival. Tickets and further information available: www.trifest.ie.

Four major charities who are officially involved will benefit from this year's event include; Respect, Children's Hospital Crumlin, Camara and Croi. Well known travel presenter Kathryn Thomas - will also be participating and fundraising for her charity - Respect.
