2006 Goldeneye T Awards

TOP HONOURS FOR WATERWAYS IRELAND WEBSITE

Waterways Ireland received a double commendation for its new website at the "GoldenEye T" Awards in Belfast last night. The "GoldenEye T" Awards are Northern Ireland's leading business technology awards recognising innovative business IT projects.

Waterways Ireland was short-listed for two of the 13 distinct categories. The first was the "Tourism Technology Awards" for the best use of leading edge technology in the travel and tourism sector; the second was the "All Island Award" for the company or organisation which uses technology to develop a business on an all-island basis.

Martin Dennany, Director of Marketing and Communications with Waterways Ireland accepted the awards on behalf of the organisation.

"The aim of the new Waterways Ireland website is to create an awareness of Ireland's inland waterways by illustrating the characteristics of each waterway and the navigation links between the waterways", he said. "These awards are a wonderful recognition of the technology solution that we have put in place to inform a worldwide audience of the unique recreational resource that is the inland waterway system".

The Waterways Ireland website (www.waterwaysireland.org), launched in January at the London Boat Show, is fully dynamic and features the seven navigable waterways in Ireland with movie clips and information on navigation and activities on each waterway. The site is updated daily with details of development and maintenance projects on the waterways, up-to-date marine notices, as well as a myriad of other customer, navigational and promotional information.
