Waterways Ireland triAthlone Press Pack

The Waterways Ireland triAthlone 2007 takes place on Saturday 14th July in Athlone, Co Westmeath. The event which is in its second year will see over 1500 competitors take to the Shannon and to the streets of Athlone for one of the largest triathlons in Europe this year.

The event consists of a 750m Swim in the River Shannon followed by a 20km Cycle and 5km Run around and through the streets of Athlone. The race starts at 3.55pm and continues in waves at regular intervals until 5.30pm. Later in the evening, the Irish Elite Championships Race starts at 8.00pm with a spectacular "dive start" from a temporary pontoon downstream of the main bridge in Athlone.
