Upgraded Jetty at Riverview
OPENING OF UPGRADED JETTY AT RIVERVIEW IN ENNISKILLEN
Waterways Ireland is delighted to announce that the new and upgraded Riverview Jetty at Queen Street in Enniskillen will be open to the public on Friday 8th July 2005. At a cost of approximately £100,000 the project is part of ongoing investment by Waterways Ireland in the recreational infrastructure of the Erne System.
The original fixed timber jetty has been upgraded to a modern floating facility which will facilitate access to and from the water regardless of water levels. The new jetty is 100 metres in length and will accommodate at least 10 craft. In addition, a lower level floating platform has been installed to allow access to and from the water by canoeists. From the jetty, boat users will be able to access the town centre and the newly landscaped amenity and picnic area at Queen Street developed by Fermanagh District Council.
The Riverview Jetty upgrade work is the Waterways Ireland contribution to the £1.3 million Queen Elizabeth Road Boulevard Scheme being implemented by Fermanagh District Council as part of the Enniskillen Integrated Development Plan. The main funder for the Boulevard Project is the Department of Social Development which is providing funding of £1.2 million.
The Scheme runs from Queen Street to the bridge at the Clinton Centre and includes new and enhanced walk and cycle ways, landscaping, street lighting and fishing stands. The project is due for completion early December 2005.
Waterways Ireland is the North/South implementation body responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the inland navigable waterway systems principally for recreational purposes, including the Erne System.
