New Carrick-on-Shannon Mooring

NEW WATERWAYS IRELAND MOORINGS IN CARRICK ON SHANNON

Waterways Ireland is delighted to announce the opening of new moorings at Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim to boat users.

Work on the moorings, which started in December last year, was undertaken as part of the National Development Plan. The project involved the installation of some 280 metres of public mooring space at a new jetty at the Quay in Carrick on Shannon. The new moorings, which cost €300,000, will provide berthing for an additional 28 boats.

Waterways Ireland is also delighted to announce the awarding of a contract this week for the construction of a new service block to provide toilet and shower facilities for boat users. Work on the service block is due to be completed before the end of the year. This element of the project, which will cost €200,000, is co-funded by Leitrim County Council.

The new moorings and service block are being installed as part of an overall project to develop and enhance the riverside amenity value of the water front in Carrick on Shannon in partnership with Leitrim County Council.

Waterways Ireland has a programme of ongoing investment in upgrading and developing facilities on the Shannon Navigation. The Shannon Navigation, which includes the River Shannon and its lakes, is navigable over a distance of 215 km from Lough Allen, Co Leitrim to the sea at Limerick. Other works currently underway on the Shannon Navigation include refurbishment and enhancement of the quay area at Ardnaffrin Bridge, near Jamestown, new public marina facilities in Garrykennedy on Lough Derg and Portrunny on Lough Ree.

Waterways Ireland is the North/South Implementation Body responsible for managing, maintaining, developing and restoring the inland navigable waterways throughout the island.
